In 2021, Two Tigers spearheaded a collaboration with The Peabody Essex Museum to gather a from a photography fellowship we were previously involved with, to provide a nuanced and expanded view of contemporary China through the lens of emerging image makers from a diverse array of identities, perspectives, and lived experiences.
In response to PEM’s collection and objects featured in the Power and Perspective: Early Photography in China exhibition (curated by Stephanie H. Tung and Karina Corrigan), fellows participated in a virtual, process-oriented incubator, facilitated by independent scholar/curator He Yining.
Two Tigers was integral to the entire process, including collaboratively organizing a method for fellows to convene virtually and safely, creating a space to catalyze collaboration with an adaptable view of possible outputs. The multi-month program featured a curriculum of required reading, guest speakers, and the opportunity to collectively pitch a presentation of their own work for potential inclusion in the exhibition. Ultimately, PEM accepted the proposal and fellows began working directly with the Museum to arrange the production and presentation of their vision. Installation photos by Tif Ng.
During the run of Power and Perspective, Two Tigers also worked on all aspects of a virtual roundtable about activating collections in collaboration with Asia Art Archive in America. The roundtable discussion, presented in English and Chinese with live translation, was moderated by He Yining and featured three photographers discussing their artwork presented in the exhibition.
